La Source is a very unusual company. It is not run for profit as much as for the love! In her youth, Saskia spent 5 years as an Outward Bound Instructor in America, Costa Rica and South Africa taking children and adults on life changing adventures into the wilderness. She spent 5 years in the Alps running family and adult retreats from the La Source Eco-Lodge. The lodge was sold in 2011 and, Saskia currently hosts 3 great value family trips a year. In 2016, by popular demand, a super budget Chamonix Adventure Immersion trip is being launched.
Price & Value
Having been a single parent, and now being part of a big blended family, the founder of La Source knows how hard it is to find affordable and inspiring family holidays! At La Source we know the importance of ‘Time-Out’! It is so important to take time for yourself, time in nature, time to connect with yourself, family and friends. We designed some unique and extremely good value holidays – just the kind of holidays that we would like to go on! We keep our prices as lean as possible to keep them as accessible as possible. We can sometimes offer financial assistance to families in need too!
We love the beauty and majesty of the Alps and their accessibility. We currently only work in 2 off the beaten track beautiful villages; Samoens, The Grand Massif & Vallorcine, Chamonix
There are so many activities available winter and summer. The villages are all little more than an hour from Geneva Airport.
La Source is run by Saskia who hosts each trip (except for the Summer Immersion). She has a small team of passionate and highly experienced hosts, and chefs who join her. We are all committed to giving each individual a special and memorable week. We design our weeks, to be as flexible as possible.
We choose the ideal accommodation for each specific holiday. In the summer, when the prices are lower in the Alps, we use our old Eco-Lodge ‘The most Beautiful Eco Lodge in the Alps’, The Guardian. Over the peak ski weeks we work with Centres des Vacances and quirky family run hotels in order to keep our prices as good value as possible!
On most trips parents and children get their own rooms, but on the New Year Trip each family is allocated an en suite dormitory room.
Our Wonderful Guests
A big part of the experience of our holidays is our diverse international groups. Guests, drawn to our philosophy, come from all over the world creating a rich sense of community. Many long term friendships are forged and guests return again and again.
Single Parent or Single Child Families
Our Holidays are very suitable for single parent families and for families with one child as by the end of the week, the whole group feels like one big family!
The food is a very important part of our holidays! All of our trips are catered. The food and flexibility of the food depends on your choice of trip. In the summer we work with our own chef who sources local and organic food and serves us wholesome, fresh and healthy food. All dietary requirements can be catered for. In the winter, we have less flexibility but allergies and vegetarian diets are catered for.
All of our trips are within an hour of Geneva. Please see each individual trip page to see what we recommend in terms of the most sustainable travel options.
Do I need a car?
If you are a larger group or family, driving is often the cheapest and most sustainable mode of travel. It also offers the most flexibility so we recommend it for the summer trips.
Samoens and Vallorcine are Adventure Sports Paradises. We have worked with the local guides for over 8 years and recommend the best and safest adventures. Please see the specific trip pages for details of what is on offer.
