How do I book
At the bottom of the trip description pages there is a BOOK NOW button. If you click on this, you get taken to a short questionnaire which gives us all the info we need to book you a place. Any information you give us is kept strictly confidential. Once we receive your booking form, you will receive an email and deposit invoice from us within 48 hours. Please recontact us if you don’t hear from us!
How do I pay
Our invoice contains our bank details. We ask all UK residents to pay directly to our account by bank transfer. For overseas guests, we can set up a paypal transfer if a bank transfer is inconvenient.
What are my guarantees
Our full Terms and Conditions are at the end of the Booking Form. We follow the guidelines in the Package Travel Regulations and keep all guest money in a separate account until the trip has taken place. If we have to cancel, we would therefore be able to refund the trip in full.
Our tour operator liability insurance is with Towergate Champman Stevens.
What if I need to cancel our trip
We understand that Families lead busy and unpredictable lives. That is why we only charge a nominal deposit of £50 per person. If you have to cancel, we also offer to put your deposit towards any other La Source trip in the future so you don’t lose anything on your cancellation.
The full balance is due 10 weeks before the start of the trip as this is when we need to pay our suppliers. Please make sure you have Travel Insurance to cover you for cancellation within 10 weeks of the trip.
Why Book With La Source
La Source offers unique trips that will either resonate with you or not! We love what we do and our goal is to ensure that you have a wonderful, relaxing and life enhancing week.
For 7 years we have been collecting feedback and refining our trips and we think they are getting even better!
Where are our Trips
The wonderful French Alps. We love the beauty and majesty of the Alps and their accesibility.
We work in 2 ‘off the beaten track’ beautiful villages; Samoens, The Grand Massif & Vallorcine, Chamonix. We choose Samoens for the summer trips as it is just exquisite and an adventure sports paradise and everything is so easy to access.
We choose Vallorcine for the winter trip as the skiing is fabulous, there are very few queues and we have a long standing relationship with a self contained Outdoor Centre, perfect for families, who can offer us a super competitive deal over a Peak Ski week.
Another reason we choose these villages is that they are little more than an hour from Geneva Airport and a doable drive from the UK.
All of our trips avoid Saturday transfers as that is the busiest and most expensive day to travel.
When can I come on a La Source trip
We are currently only running trips on 3 weeks of the year. We can offer trips outside these dates for school and large groups of 25 or more people. We specialise in organising incredible trips on extremely low budgets. We take great pleasure in organising trips for Foster Homes, and Schools. If you can’t afford our listed trips, pull a group together and we can try to make something magic happen within your budget.
Are the trips flexible
La Source is run by a very small team of passionate, experienced and lovely adventurers committed to giving each individual a special and memorable week. We tailor our Family Activity Holidays, as much as possible, to each family. In our booking form we ask questions that help us offer you the best possible holiday. Some weeks we offer several holiday options that run simultaneously. We cater to dietary requirements where we can. We will generally do anything we can to help you have the best possible holiday!
The dates of the trips are not flexible except if you want to come a day late or leave a day early. Sometimes that is possible.
The Price & Value
We believe in fantastic value for money for all of our guests. We are all highly experienced independent travellers and we have lived in the Alps for many years and speak fluent French so we have a great deal of local knowledge that helps us design the best value holidays.
We choose the ideal accommodation for each specific holiday. In the summer, when the prices are lower in the Alps, we use some of the most beautiful high end chalets. In each trip description, we describe the accommodation and where it is situated and provide photos. Please ask if you would like further info.
Wholesome, fresh and healthy food is a very important part of our holidays! All of our pre-scheduled trips are catered. The food and flexibility of the food (i.e., how carefully we can cater to dietary requirements) depends on the trip and we state this in the specific trip write ups. As a general rule, on our yoga and summer trips we can really cater to all dietary requirements as we have our own chef. On skiing trips we have less say! Where possible, we source and encourage the use of local and organic food and keep our food and drinks as pure as possible. We always have a good vegetarian holiday food option.
Travel & Local/ Airport Transfers
We always recommend driving or coming by train as those are the more sustainable ways to travel. Geneva is our closest airport. Please see each individual trip page to see what we recommend in terms of travel details.
Do I need a car
Only for our summer trips. Our Winter trip is a stones throw from a train stations. If you are a larger group or family, driving is often the cheapest, most flexible and sustainable mode of travel, so that is what we generally recommend.
What kinds of Adventure Activities
In the summer, Samoens is an Adventure Sports Paradise. Everything is on offer, from rafting to canyoning, parapenting to horse riding, biking to climbing. There are plenty of free activities to keep you busy for the week; for example, spectacular hiking, lake and waterfall swimming. But, if you want to try anything that requires a guide or specialist equipment or training, we put you in touch directly with the best local qualified guides and help you set this up.
In the winter, Vallorcine is the Mecca of ski touring and ski mountaineering, but along side the impressive glaciers and under the gaze of Mont Blanc, there is a great ski de font track, snow shoeing walks and a fantastic beginners ski area right next to our Outdoor Centre. The closest large ski area is 5 minutes away and it is called La Balme and it is part of the Chamonix network and links Vallorcine with Le Tour. There is an ice skating rink 5 minutes away and a public swimming pool in Chamonix.
Sustainable travel is very important to us. We are strongly linked with Respect the Mountain and take part in sustainable travel awareness raising activities with our family trips in the summer. We are also part of the Responsible Travel group. For us, sustainable travel means travelling with consciousness and respect and that is something that we actively promote on all of our trips. We try to work only with chalets, hotels, guides and people who respect the areas in which we work on an environmental and cultural level.
The La Source weeks are led by dedicated, gifted ‘Sourcey’ hosts. All of our hosts are talented professionals from various fields who come from far and wide to lead these trips. They are with you all week to ensure you have the best possible experience. Saskia, the founder of La Source, is currently hosting most of the trips. She was an Outward Bound Instructor for 5 years and led trips in America, South Africa and Costa Rica. She is a qualified yoga instructor and has been practicing yoga for over 20 years. She is an award winning documentary film maker and currently specialises in making films for progressive schools around the world.
What are the other guests like
I think it may be due to the nature of what we offer, but somehow, our guests are always wonderful! A big part of the experience of our holidays is our diverse international groups. Guests, drawn to our philosophy, come from all over the world creating a rich sense of community. Many long term friendships are forged and guests often return again and again. We have families from all over Europe on family summer and ski weeks, and we have adult guests from all over the world on our adult summer trips. We have had guests as young as 6 weeks up to 91! Perhaps the thing that draws our guests together is an appreciation of our philosophy of sustainable travel and healthy conscious living.
Learning English on Holiday
La Source trips are a great way for non- native English speaking families to have an english immersion for their children or themselves! Many of our regular European guests use our Holidays as a two for one! English language immersion and fun family holiday in one!
Are your holidays good for single parent families
Yes! Saskia has been a single Mum and knows what it is like travelling alone with your children. La Source trips are very much about community and we have many single guests who come back again and again! Our guests feel very nurtured on our trips and often they say that they feel like part of a family! Often guests create facebook pages for their trip and stay in touch long afterwards.
Steiner/ Waldorf Holidays?
Saskia, the founder of La Source, has 2 children at a Steiner/ Waldorf school and she has done most of the Steiner teacher training and make films with Steiner Schools around the world. Our trips are very suited to people whose children are at Steiner Waldorf schools as our values are very much in tune. We teach the children experientially as we wander through the alpine scenery. We subtly help them develop good leadership and communication skills through giving them a sense of responsibility.
And if that is not enough….
